Whooping cough can sometimes be mistaken as a common cold or flu, especially during it's early stages. The symptoms usually include:

It is because of how mild and common these symptoms are that parents, and even doctors, don't believe that it could be the begininng of whooping cough. Despite this, these symptoms can often last for 6 weeks.

Once a person has had the disease for an extended period of time however, the symptoms turn into much worse:
